I've thought about homeschooling - but where do I start?
There is a vast array of information available and the problem isn't being able to find information, it is being able to weed through all the information and sift out what is useful to you. I'm here to help. I've been homeschooling for a little more than 9 years, ever since my oldest daughter was born. We were interrupted for a couple of years when my two oldest were in public school, because I didn't realize 1) that I had been homeschooling, I thought I was just parenting, and 2) I realized I really missed being with my kids and learning with them. I spent the 2 years that my girls were in school studying about homeschooling, preparing to really homeschool. However, I've learned so much more in the last two years as I've put my learning into action. I realized that I needed to hit the books again. There are a lot of books, and websites out there, and although I suggest you read and study and pray, I'm going to guide you to some of the best starting places.
The National LDS Homeschool Association calls it Help! I'm New and they have some fabulous information. I don't want to duplicate their work, so check out their whole website and sign up to receive their newsletter.
The next website to visit it the Deseret Homeschool Association website. This the website of the group of LDS homeschoolers in the Treasure Valley. I have enjoyed being part of this group the last few years. Even before I was homeschooling I felt included. Reading the monthly newsletter gave me courage and increased my desire to homeschool my children again. Take a few minutes to check out the current newsletter and sign up to be a member.
Please feel free to ask any questions that you might have and I will do my best to point you in the right direction.
Warning - I have strong beliefs and will tend to talk mostly about what I believe, and what I feel is best for my family. However, although I may try to convince or persuade you to believe as I do, I will allow you to choose for yourself and your family and not judge you. My goal is to help you find your path. I hope that we can support each other on the path back home, they may not be the same paths, but hopefully they will cross often enough that we will get to our destination safely.
